New comet
C/2017 S3 (PANSTARRS) was discovered 2017-Aug-17 at magnitude 21.8 by the
Pan-STARRS survey.
The
object's retrograde orbit is inclined 99 degrees from the ecliptic with the
object currently at 4.9 AU from the sun.
The new
comet is expected to pass perihelion in mid-August 2018 at only 0.2 AU from the
sun. The ephemeris by the Minor Planet Center predicts a magnitude of 4.1 at
perihelion but at very low solar elongation.
